We are quickly approaching the end of 2014. Oftentimes, the years seem to come and go before our very eyes, leading us to ask ourselves, “where did the time go?” The holiday season is in full swing and like most families, we will gather with loved ones to break bread and give thanks for the many blessings we have, realizing just how blessed we really are.

I’m sure if you took some time to look back over your life during this year, you could take inventory of the things you’ve been through and all that you’ve accomplished for yourself. But what I want to ask of you, especially over the next month and half and into 2015, is to be thankful within each moment as it happens because life as we know it can flash before our very eyes. If we are not mindful of the moment we are in, we can miss the warmth of a blessing as it is happening. We then come to the end of the year with the possibility of miscounting many blessings or having a hard time recalling how a blessing actually unfolded because we were not in the moment, taking a pause to see a blessing for what it really is.

Every day that we see is a blessing, but within each day are so many other blessings that go unnoticed because they may not come wrapped in the box we prayed for. It can be hard to see a blessing for what it is because we tend to see things with our physical eyes instead of our spiritual eyes. I’m willing to bet that blessings you have prayed for this year have been answered but because you did not recognize them, they went unnoticed.

Using our spiritual eyes takes practice. We are conditioned to see things as they are instead of how everything works together to form a bigger picture. Everything works together for good. This includes the bad and the ugly. So when we take a moment to see things that may happen in our lives and how it’s all tied to something greater, our focus then becomes clear on what the blessing is.

From this day forward, learn to put your spiritual eyes to use. I promise, if you do, you will count so many blessings that will leave you feeling not only blessed, but loved.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.” – Ephesians 1:3
