The worst thing you can do when you are in a depressed state is focus on what you don’t have. I know it is easy to get down and focus on the things that are sinking you, but that is the time when you need to be thankful. When you are down, you can still choose to be happy. When you aren’t feeling so great, choose to elevate the things that are currently benefitting you in your life. Being thankful and acknowledging what is good in your life and around you is an awesome tool to use to keep yourself from being frozen in a blizzard of despair.
In this world, we are constantly bombarded with images of things we don’t have, and what we think we should have. The constant advertisements keeps us in a state of, “I want because what I have is not sufficient,” as opposed to in a mindset of, “I have and I am grateful.”
There is nothing wrong with striving for the best in life, but we must remember in doing so that gratitude is the best attitude. No matter how cliché the saying sounds it rings true to everyone on this earth. No matter how much you feel like you are missing or how bad things seem, you can always find something to be grateful for. How can you accept more if you are never grateful for what you already have?
Being grateful for what you have alleviates all of the negative emotions felt with lack. If you are constantly in the mindset of I don’t have, I want, and I wish you open yourself up to a slew of unfavorable emotions of inadequacies. You may not be in the best position right now, but you need to find a way to be grateful for where you are. Being grateful will get you to the next level quicker than being upset about your current position.
Let go of the negative emotions associated with lack and exchange those for gratitude. You will ascend to better things in the future, but let’s take a second to be present in today and thankful for what we have now. You can find something to be grateful for in any situation, if you look hard enough.
Idea: Think of 5 things that you are grateful for today and post in the comments below? Here are mine:
- My relationship with God.
- My family, friends, and dogs.
- My job.
- My talents and abilities.
Gratitude projects light, maturity, and honor into the universe. What you put out, you get back.
Show God that you can be grateful for what you have now!
Have an attitude of gratitude it really does make all of the difference in your mood!
Lastly, Thanksgiving Day isn’t the only time to show gratitude. Gratitude is a lifestyle and you will feel happier the more you practice it.
